Otaki Golfers Begin Play In Championships

The qualifying rounds- for the 1949 championships were played by the Otaki Golf Club on Saturday. The courss was not in the best order and this was refleoted in the scores returned. These were: — Senior: E. Gray 71, Z. Gray 77, W. D'Ath 78, T. Wehster 79, J. Winterburn 79, T. O'Rourke 79, J. Sams 81 and H. Derham 81, all qualifying. Intermediate : N. D. Anderson 82, T. Mansell 86, N. Gray 87, P. Bryden 87, S. Elliott 88, E. P. Simcox 93, W. Rzoska 95, D. O. Sutherland 95, all qualified, A. Wilson 99, W. Jepson 99 and B. Ryder 101. Junior: D. G. Reid 91, P. Willis 93, L. G. Gimblett 99„ H. Brunton 103, N. Willis 106, H. L. Browne 106 and J. Duncan 109, all qualified. The draw for the first round to be played on August 27 is as follows: — Senior: E. Gray v. H. Derham, T. Webster v. J. Winterburn, T. O'Rourke v. W. D'Ath, J. Sams v. Z. Gray. Intermediate: N. D. Anderson v. D. G. Sutherland, P. Bryden v. S. E'liott, E. P. Simcox v. N. Gray, W. Rzoska v. T. Mansell. Junior; D. G. Reid a bye, H. Brunton v. N. Willis, H. L. Browne v. D. G. Gimblett, J. Duncan v. P. Willis. The medal round played in conjunction with ihe quaufying round iwas won by N. D. Anderson with 182—15—67. 1 Next Saturday, the fourth and Last card for the Tris Harper iMemorial will be played, ^ and on Sunday mixed foursomes will be held for the Stewart Trophies, Sunday will be a general tea day.
