Women's Division Holds Birthday Party

The Paraparaumu branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held its 12th birthday in bhe Anglican Hall . recenibly, when Mrs. C. Connolly presided. There was a large attendance of members and visitors from other districts. The hall was attractively decorated with spring flowers and a large ieed cake with 12 eandles held p ace of honour. Mrs. Connolly extended a cordial welcome to all presenu and hoped all would enjoy the varied programme provided for their entertainment. . The opening number saw the choir render "Consecration," those taking part being Mesdames E. Wilshire, R. McKenzie, R. Wakelin and A. Price, with Miss M. Hansen as aecompaniste. A delightfu ly humorous play reading entitled "Sawdust and Shuttlecocks," folLowed, those taking part being Mesdames R. Caterer, E. Weston, G. Hadfield, W. Hefcock, Hickman, Simpson and Matthews. Other items included a sketch, "Our Lizzie Loses her Handbag," by Mrs. Price, a Highland dance in costume by Natalie Walton, a recitation, "How to Avoid the Middle-aged Spread," by Mrs. W. Nye, a dance by cwo little girls, Diane and Jill Burton in costume, a shepherdess dance by Maureen Burton, and a popular vocal number, "Buttons and Bows," sung and tap-danced by Beverly Burton. Natalie Walton also danced in the coslume of An Irish Cofleen, and a short humorous sketch, "Administering Angels," by Mrs. Corner and Misses Udy and Webber concluded a very enjoyable programme, each item being gen-

erously applauded. The eandles on the birthday cake were lit by Mrs. H. McLeavey, Ohau, and extinguished by Mrs. R. Jenkins, Otaki-Te Horo. Many beautiful bouquets, together with messages offering greedngs and good wishes, were received from various branches. Among delegates fr.om othei branches were Mesdames MacLean, Blenkhorn and Kilsby.
