Rep. Rugby Trial Game Not Favoured

Following a report from the senior selector, Mr. D. OTiver, it was decided at last night's meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby ' Union's management committee not to press for a trial game prior to the Manawhenua match with Australia. Mr. Oliver said that Manawata players, having just' returned from their to'ur, might not care to play a mid-week trial. He had discussed the question with Manawata ofiicials but they had not yet decided, although they had favoured a trial game. The selector, Mr. J. Finlay, had stated that he could mahage without a trial. Mr, j, Cr' MacDonald (Punahau) said he had heard a trial game was not favoured by some of the Horowhenua players. Nash. Cut>.

At a recent meeting reference had 'b£en made to. a paragraph in a Wellington daily ' newspaper conceming the presentation of the Bebbington Shield, stated a letter from the Dannevirke sub-union. The suh -union said that it wished to disassociate itself from the report, which was stated as having come from Dannevirke, and to express regret at the publicity given to what apparently was the private opinion of one or two individuals. The letter added that the committee wished to thank the Horowhenua union for the hospitality extended to the team and particularly to the president, Mr. R. L.
