Monowai Runs Into Hurricane Force Gale

WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. The Union Company's liner Monowai, bound to Wellington from Svdney, ran into a, storm during the night. AH night the wind was blowing at hurricane force, her commander, Captain G. B. Morgan, reported to the company tfiis morning. Captain Morgan reported that although he could have maintaine*'d sc.hedvile, the speed of the ship was eased doym to avoid greater discomfort to the passengers, and expected that the vesse1 would arrive in Wellington shortly after 2 o'clock this afterpoon. A later message to the company from the Monowai stated that the wind was still of hurricane force and that the captain was unafre to give a definite time for the ship's arrival at Wellington. -Tlie message added that the Monowai had hove to in the interests of the comfort of passengers.
