Investiture Recalls Heroism In War

CHRISTCHURCH, August 9. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., presented awards to 113 persons at an investiture in Durham Street Art Gallery this morning. Many deeds of bravery and heroism in World War II were recalled in the citations to the awards, only twelve of xyhich were to civilians. The awards in the civil division were for outstanding public service in the spheres of layr, education, welfare, sport and nursing. A total of 114 awards was presented, Serrgcant Eric Batchelor, of Waimate, receiving both the Distinguished Conduct Medal and a Bar., The pyincipal civil award was the knijghtfiop^ ep^lerxe,^ osn Sir Arthur Donnelly.
