Man Fined £50 For Offence Of Bookmaking
Charged in the Police Court, Levin, (this morning with carrying ofi the husiriess of a bookmaker, Ernest Arthur Gentry, baker, of Oxford Btreet, Levinr pleaded- guilty and was eonvicted and fined £50 by Messrs D. J. Gardiner and G. Sweetman, J.P.'s. Ser'geant W. Grainger, prosecutipg, told the court that -in company with Const'able W. R. Oillespie, he h^d visited defendant's business premises on Baturda.y at 2.30 p.m. apd fpund him taking bets over the telepihone. Bets §mounting to 219 were recorded, ranging from 2s 6d to £5 in value and totalling in all £259" 10s. It was his first offence under the Gaming Act.
