The Christian's Hope For World Peace
"The Christian religion, the Ghristian ethic and the Christian Church go together and men cannat have one without also having the other two. Believing and be~ haVing belong together," said' Rev. A. Salmohd, preaching in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Sunday. "Christian faith in the love of the Holy God hrings men into a community where ChrisLian standard's of eonduct are learned and practised, and where the Christian fellowship, gathered out of all naflons and races," becomes visible. There is no hope of peace and brotherhood in this world unless meh d'o come to a connmon faith anfi embody in their daily living the high standards o'f a clean morality.
"We are living in times when much'has gone wrong with the life of the world and many thoughtful people say they are disillusioned or despairing. Paul lived in a similar world. His, too, was a grey age. His life was saved from despair and frustration by his knowledge of the Gospel and his enthusiasm in commending it. "AcuteJy conscious of the cleavages and divisions of the world in Which he lived, and sensitive 'to the pain and cruelty to which they were giying rise, Paul saw in the little Christian groups that a new spirit was at work. The agelong divisions of. Greek and barbarian, Jew and Gentile, master and slave, and man and woman no longer warked their destruccive cruelties. In Christ a new basis of unity for humanity had been given by God. "Political groupings and power bloes today give as little hope as ever for enduring world peace. The Christian hope for world peace depends on a living, active worshipping Christian Church in every land, capahle o.f works of faith and sacrifice/' concluded the preacher.
