By defeating Kenneth by -one fall secured with a rocking-chair splits in the seventh round, McCready retained the Empire title in the first title bout, held in Hamiltdn lastfnight. Points were about even to this stage. In the seventh round Kenneth had thrown McCready through the ropes twice and both men fell through a third time. McCready brought Kenneth back, into the ring with a flyirig mare and dived for a press. The referee broke them. It appeared that Kenneth thought a fall had been awarded against him and he began arguing with the referee. McCready quickly applied a rocking-chair splits ar d got a body press for a fall. Kenneth had an Irish whip in the last round, but McCready escaped. The result received a mixed reception.
