Dominion To Import Sugar From Overseas

CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. It has been decided to augment New Zealand's production of sugar by the importation, of 10,000 tons cf refined sugar from an overseas source. The sugar is to arrive before the end of the year and most of it is destined from the^ Bouth Island. This announcement was made in Christchurch, todav by the Minister of Supply, Mr. Nordmeyer. The first shipment, he said, is due late next month and an additional 10,000 tons shouM ensure ample supplies of sugar for the jam making season. The Minister added that shipping space had been booked for regular shipments. It was anricipated that the first two shipments would be of 1,000 tons each, to be foflowed by two further shipments each of 4,000 tons.
