At Oroua Downs on Saturday Horowhenua A and p \ basketball teams played their annual fixture with Te Kaw^u,' 1 the senior A team defeating Te Kawau 19—13 and the' B team drawing 11-all with their opponents. The A team showed that it had benefited by the experience gained in its match against Hutt Valley the previous week, a weakness of that game— interception— being much improved on Saturday. In fact the Horowhenua girls' inter-. ception of the ball was the outstanding feature of the game and was particularly noticeable in the centre and defence • sections of the team. The attacking tactics of the team were a pleasure to witness.

Again and again as the ball was P'ssed by the Te Kawau centres \:e Horowhenua centres anticipated the movement of their oppjnmts, and reversed play to send riie baii moving rapidly towards heir own forward third. Here one :ou d mention the only fault of the Horowhenua centres. They were often slow to get invo position a player was penalised for aelding the ball longer than three s.conas. However, the centres are io be cempiirnented on o/ercommg their worsb fault, their slowness to a.ttack. ' The defence prayers did splendid work preventing Te Kawau for-ward-s from scoring. Here again good interception prevented the home team from scoring -many a goa.. The work of M. Winiata and J. Roberts in this section was outstanding. They were ably supported by J. Parr, who has as yet failed j to dispiay her full ability. This p ayer has given glimpses of splendid anticipation which, unfortunate y, has not been shown to date in representative games. . These .hree defence piayers, however, should prove a vaiuab'e trio and do i good work f ir Horowhenua. at the jriew Zealand tournament. Brilliance In Forwards. The forwards of the A team had their brilliant momsnts and both |J. MeClune and M. Care and con■centration are needed to shoot all goa s whether from an easy angle or from a difficult one.
