Good Times In 33-Mile Road Cycling Race
Riders from Palmerston North, Feilding, Wanganui, Foxton and Levin took par, in the road cyclins race conducted by the Levin club 011 Saturday last, 46 entrles being received. The couise of 33 miles was from Levin to Shannon to Foxton and back to Levin, and excellent times were recorded. Two mi'es from home there was a bunch of four riders leading the field, J. Jenkins, M. Graham and E Stevenson fall of Palmerston North) and R. Calder (Foxton). At this stage of the race the latter two hsd the misfortune to crash. In a very thrilling tussle Jenkins won by a lengtlr from Graham and 30 secands later Stevenson and Calder, who were ab'e to finish, fought it out for the former to gain third p ace ancl Ca uer fourth. ' In what would have been a fine ' sprint for fastest time honours, M. Mobberley (New Zealand chamP:om led from N. Vertongen, R. Butcher and P. Bloomfield in that order. The sprint was spoilt by traHlc travelling in the same direction endeavouring to overtake the riders. John Tavlor gahied the trophy for the first Levin rider to finish ancl H.i rry Donovan that for fastest time for Levin liclms. Axan Rolston was the only other Levin rifler to finish. The other two starters, Malco'm Harper and Stuart Coutts, were forced to. retire owing to machine frouble. Resuits: J. Jenkins (Palmerston Nofthi, 1 hr 26 mins, 1; M.
