Atomic Bomb: Long Way For Russia To Go
Eeceived Tuesday 8 p.m. NEW YORK, August 1. Authoritative circles think Russia cannot produce the atomic bomb until 1952, according to the New Y 01 k Tim.es' scientifie correspondent. Best informed opinion is that it would take Russia at least seven vears (beginning from August 1945) to reach the poin! United States had reached at New Mexico four vears ago when the iirst bomb was tested. It should take Russia five more years to build up a stock-pile. This gives TTnited States a few precious years in which the world may use its collective wisdom to arrive at modus vivendi with the atom. The correspondent adds that the dis closure that United States was producing atomic bombs on an industrial basis, means that these weapons can now be produced at a much faster rate so that. before long the stock-pile which is alreadv considerable, will be grcatly increased.
