Rain Affects Building Work In Levin
' *.» li'e . v • n W .. - - t Construction had begun on eight new dwellings in Levin 'during July, six others being completed during that period, reported the building inspector, Mr. H. T. Tilyard, to the Levin _ Borough Council at last night's meeting. Excluding State houses, this left the number in the course of erection at t'he moment at 72. Wet weather had- had the effect of slowing down the s'tart of new buildings, but had allowed builders to get on with jobs already un'der way, reported Mr. Tilyard in his siatement for the month. Sub-contractors were still trying to make up leeway. The shortage of cement had also held up some foundations and plastering work on jobs otherwise finished. There were several shed£, garages and alterations under way. The following are the numbers and values of permits issued for new buildings during the last quarter, the figures for. the previous year being shown in parenthesls: Private dwellings, 30 (38), £54,109 (£63,958); other buildings, 6 (3), £3148 (£527) . During the month of July. permits were issued for 11 private dwellings and a total value of £21,615 and two (£1028) for other buildings.
