"REVOLUTIONARY" JET ENGINE
• COPENHAGEN, July 31. | The Danish newspaper Social Demo- . kraten today quoted engineering circles in Copenhagen for a report that a , "revolutionary ' •' jet air engine _invented by a Danish engineer, Henning , Rosengart, will be sold to the IJnited States Air Force for several million dollars. According to the paper the engine achieved 1804 miles an hour in a wind tunnel test. HIJSH, HUSH JET WINS AIR RACE LONDON, July 30. One of Britain 's latest " hu§h, hush" jet war planes, the Hawker P 1040, snatched a thrilling split second victory in the Ivemsley Cup air race at Almdon airport, Birmingham, today. The plane averaged 508 miles. an hour for four laps on a 20 miles course. Thirty-six crack pilots. entered the race for the King's Cup which was held for the first time since 1938. J. M. Somers, flying a Miles Gemini, won the | event wTith an average speed of 104 iniles an hour.
