Firmer Prices For Many Vegetable Lines
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd.-, fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, report that at last Thursday's ,,sale there was a particularly keen demand for all choice varieties of both fruit and vegetables. In most cases returns proved satisfactory. Chinese gooseberries, passion fruit and New Zealand grapefruit all showed increases on the previous week's saies. Savoy and spring cabbage, together with cauliflowers, realised famine prices. New Potatoes and green peas are keenly sought after. Quotations are as follows: — Vegetables: Artichokes, 4s lo 6s; carrots, »5s to 7s sugar bags; beetroot, 7s to 9s; spring cabbage, 17s to 19s; lettuce, 10s to 15s; others, 5s to 9s; leeks, 8s to 12s; marrows, 5s to 8s; rhubarb, 9s to 16s; silver beet, 2s to 4s; choice spinach, 20s to 35s; white turnips, 4s to 6s, all cases; savoy cabbage, 12s to 23s 6d; cauliflowers, 10s to 19s; pumpkins, red, 9s to 17s; triumb.e, 14s to 17s; swedes, 4s to 11s sacks; parsnips,. 7s to 8s sugar bags; peas, lld to ls 4d; sprouts, 6d per lb; kumeras, 40s to 45s cwt'.; onions, wanted; mint, 6d to 9d; parsley, 6d to ls; radish, 4d to 8s; chinese cabbage, 6d to 9d, bunches; new potatoes, ceiling price. Fruit: Tree tomatoes, 10s 6d to 16s 6d; chinese gooseberries, choice 22s to 30s; outside , tomatoes, 15s to 30s; chokos, 2s 6d to 4s; meyer lemons, 5s to 7s; mandarines, 20s to 27s 6d, all half cases; New Zealand grapefruit, 12s to 19s per bushel; passion fruit, 2s to 3s 6d per dozen; hothouse tomatoes, 2s 3d to 3s 7d per lb. Flowers: Poppies, art, best, 6s to 11s 6d; tangerine, 4s to 8s; carnations, 45s; sol d'ors, 10s to 20s; jonquils, 4s to 8s 6d; daffodils, 18s to 22s per gross; violets, 4s to 9s 6d per dozen bunches; chrysanthemums, up to 5s per dozen blooms; daphne, good demand.
