Praetically the popuiation of Levin had been knocked down on the roads in the last six years, said Mr. B. C. Campbel', of Lhe Transport Department, when stating that the number lyas 3650. Of this number 237 had been killed, some of wliom were actually on pedestrian crossings where 'they should Have had the right of way. g ;He was speaking „to members of •fhe! Levin' Borough Council on "the lack of ' visibility ' of mariy pedes-" fcrian crossings. In the last two years, he said, 87 persons had been knocked down on pedestrian crossmgs. ' In an analysis of tliese -fig--ures it had been sliown that in' oractically every cgse ,the motorists did not knowf that there was a crossing ih; the area, althou^h' they were ' travelling at a reasonable speed; Over half of the accidents occurred • at night and in wel weather.
