Farm Building Operations Should Be Encouraged
Despite the great amount of work done by progressive farmers in providing adequate accommodation for their pigs, a great deal still had to be done bv the majorify to provide conditions that were adecpiate to meet the climatic conditions that so frecjuently made the wintering of pigs an expensive proposition and a most nnpleasant and difficult job. Thus commente,d Mr L. L. Marsden, supervisor of the Wellington District Pig Couneil, at a council meeting in Palmerston North yesterday. In many instanc.es where old lavouts had fallen into disrepair owners were willing to elfect either necessary repairs cr construct a eomplete new layout, Mr Marsdon continued, but in both cases they were fnistrated. He attribut ed this to the shortage of labour and materials. "Most farmers," he said, "agree that a certain amount of building inevitably must take place in our cities and towns but I- personally feel that any building operation upon our farms that must inevitably assist primary production, upon which our national stability must depend, should be given every encouragement and assistance." Mr Marsdon said that the majority of this work could only be undertalcen during the months of May, June and July and every effort skould be made to impress upon the controllers and their bosses the urgency of the position.
