Returned Servicemen Meet
The .quarterly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association was held in the Druids' Halpon Saturday evening. The president, Mr. F. O. Burtt, presided over a good attendance of members. It was reported that the membership now stood at 256, of which 56 (were members of the Tokomaru sub-branch. There, " were three transfers out and three into the branch over the past three months. Messrs, W. S. Jamieson, Snr., and J. R. - Herbert were elected as new members. , '1 .. A report on the activities of the Dominion conference was presented by Mr. T. R. Kelly, president of the Tokomaru sub-branch. ProPosed additions to the local branch rules were discussed. A letter was received from the secretary of the Shannon Ratepayers' Association asking the branch to appoint two representatives to attend a proposed meeting to discuss the planting of a memorial avenue of trees along Ballance Street. Messrs E. J. Gunning and W. Thir-d were appointed as representatives from the RSA Following a lengthy discusion, it was decided that full support be given to the proposal to introduce compulsory military training.
