Mooney missed his century by Offiy three runs and Burtt went on to 08 mot out), enabling .Hadlee to declare the innings closed at 371 for eight.. wickets. This gave New Zealand a first innings' lead of 250. Derpyshire, after two and a half ■ hours' batting at the close of the day, when the sun had lost its bite, were two for 100. The match was watched by 5500 peop.e, the receipts being £438. For Deroyshire, Jackson, the fast medium bowler, did exceptionally well and in ten overs after luncn bowled two maidens and took two wickets for 14 runs, gaining New Zealand's high regard. The wicket was easy paced and bland throughout the day. Dunng the weekend the team visited Chatsworth Hall, one of the properties of the Duke of Devonshire, where they saw some of the first books ever printed in Germany and a manuscript nearly 1000 years old.
