Wynn:' Hesse said that it idoked with disv-' favopr on the giving of money and too man'y cups and medals on the groqnd that it was not in the best interests of the child's f uture . welfare. • - The chairman, Mr, R- L, Bobinsqn; said that the executive committee had considered the reniit ahd ha'd an amendmeht whioh he wished to move, namely, that the club continue, as in the past, giving medals, ribbons and trophies as organised by the club in schools, but that the club wqtUd hQt coup-. tenance the giving of money prizes apd that in future the schools use. only the ribbons provided by the cjub, Mt. W. Bond (Tokomaru) spoke against the amendment, remarkjng that his school had been issuing schqol ribbons prior to the introduc.tion of club ribbons. Further^ more, he considered that such arrangements ' wi-.hin a school were solely a school matter and no coneqrn of the club. He sai'd he faiied tp.see the differenee between giving chocolates, as in the past, and money as prizes. Other speakers mentioned ' how they had overeome the giving of money prizes by making ■ sma-i trophies availabie. Mr. M. W. Mowbray (Paraparaumu) said he was in agreement With Mr, Bond. Mr, A. E. Jeffrles (Shannon) considered that trophies eneouraged the children. At this stage Mr. A. E. Robinson (Education Board). advised that the motion was only a recommendation from the board and would not necessarily be insjsted on. ' After considerablc discussion, in which many views were ventilatcd, the mover of the amendment agreed to delete the stipulation Qoncerning school ribbons. The remainder of his amendment was put to the meeting and earried as the motion.
