Clans Gather For Scottish Society Ball
To the skirl of *pipes and with' kilts swinging, the, pipe bands of the Manawatu Scottish Society, the Junior Band, the Horowhenua Pipe Band and members of the Ruahine Pipe Band, officially 'opened the! Manawatu Scottish Society's annual ball when, paraded by DrumMajors Eames (Horowhenua) and G. Sutherland (Manawatu) they entered and marched round the George Street ballroom Wednesdaybefpre a crowd of onlooker-s. A representative of each band also headed the grand parade which took place later in the evening when the dancers, manv in Highland costume or with tartan ribbons and sashes, formed eights before tgking the flqor for a waltz. Parties from Weilington, Pahiatua, Wanganui, Marton, Masterton and Levin journeyed for the qccasion and the hall, with nearly a tho.usand dancers, presented a ; brilliant scene. Prior to the commencement of • the ball the combined bands i marched through Broadway and • played selections outside the hall. ,
