Progress Of Miniature Rifle Competitions

Ohau secured an eight-point win over Otaki in a recent match in the Horowhenua Miniature Rifle Association's iriter-club competition. Since then Poroutawhao has defeated Ohau in the B, C. and p. grades, while Otaki receive eight points for a win against Shannon. Only one series of matches remains to be fired to complete the first round and the championship points to date are as follows: — A grade: Ohau 8, Poroutawhao 4, Levin and Otaki 2 each. B grade: Poroutawhao 6, Levin and Ohau 4 each, Otaki 2. « C grade: 'Poroutawhao > and Ohau 6 each, Levin and Otaki 2 each. D grade:- Poroutawhao 6, Levin and Ohau 4 each, Otaki 2. Totals: Poroutawhao 22, Ohau 22, Levin 20, Otaki 8. Recent.'y, the Horowhenua assoCiation fired its first shoulder-to-shoulder match with another associaMpn, Hutt Valley. The teams consisted of 20 men and- 10 ladies, and the vende of the match was the Ohau club's range. The Horowhenua men woh by the narrow margin of three points, ■ but the ladies were dbfeated by 27 points. After welcoming the Hutt Valley teams, the Horowhenua president, Mr. A. L Lumsden, remarked on the results of the matches. He said his association had been locking forward to the visit since last season and expressed the hope that before the season ended time would be found to fire a return shoot on one of the Hutt Valley ranges.
