Military Band Honours Three Members

The Levin Mi-itary Band was host at a° very enjoyable social evening in St. Mary's Hall last' night,. t'here being present a very ■ good fepresentation of citizens ana organisations. The social, which is the first the band has staged; was a compiimentaf y function to three men wh>_ have done much to bring the band into being- and up to its present nigh Standard,. naniely, Messrs J W. Hayfiei'd, M. Boyce " and J. B Collett. Mr. Boyce tvas, unforturb ately, unable to attend.' Apologies for absence were also received livni the Mhyor and Mayoress, - Mr. and. Mrs. H. B, Burdekin, and the town c3erkj..Mi\ H. L. Jenkins, and Mrs Jenkins. The ' president of the

band, Mf. H. A., Robertson, was absent through illness, but Mi'. G. D. Harris ably deputised for him. Among those especially invited were members of the Levin Municipal Band, Horowhenua Pipe Band and Legion of Frontiefsmen. A very enjoyab'e evening result-e-d in dancing interspersed with items by -local artists. Those providing the entertainment were: Misses Ruth Green, P. Robertson, B. Young and the Green sisters, Messrs Dan Rikihana, Alan Woodmass and J. Breeze. Mrs. H. Campbell and Miss Robertson- provided the music for dancing. At a suitable juncture, Mr. Harris we.comed all the visitors and supporters of the band, and referred in glowing terms to the service rendered the band by the two guests of honour and Mr. Boyce. Afi three had worked unceasingly for the boys and but for their efforts the band would not be in existe^nce- today, he said. Musical honours were then accorded them and both Mr. Hayfield and Mr. Collett suitably replied. On behalf of the visitors present, Pipe Major A. Yorston, of the Horowhenua Pipe Band, thanked the band committee for organising such a grand social evening and expressed the hope that the Levin Military Band would: hold many more such functions. '
