The Court of Appeal eommeneed lieari'ng this afterhooa .an appeal lodgecl by John Fraser, of Dunedin, against a convietion reeorded in Dunedin on Oetober 21, 1948, of the murder of his brotlier-in-law, Alexander Siekels. Mr. T. P. Mc0.arthy, of Wellington, appointed by the Court to -.represent Fraser, said that the appeal was baseu bi'oadly on the ground that the verdiet of guilty eould not be supported, having regard t.o th.e evidenee led at tne trial. He said that, as to mueh of tlie evidenee called at the hearing, there was no dispute. The dispute lay as^ to whether Ihe shooting was accid.ental' or intentional.
