Farewell Social To Popular Poroutawhao Family

A large gathering of settlers and friends of Mr. and Mrs.. K. Hannam and their 'son, Keith, filled the Poroutawhao Hall on Saturday night to bid them farewell prior to their departure for Masterton, their future home. A popular .family, they have taken a keen and active interest in community- matters during their 15 years' residence in the district, and they will be greatly missed. The evening, which took the form of a social and dance, was an unqualified success and thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The hall was beautifully and tastefully decorated by Mrs. W. Carle and the music for dancing was most afoly provided by Mrs. Tait, Miss L. Short and Mr. Ray Strode-Penny. During the evening, a beautiful spray of flowers, the work of Mrs. John Speirs, was presented to Mrs. Hannam by * Mrs. Strode-Penny. Prior to the presentation to the guests of . honour of a. beautiful dinner and tea service, the president of the Poroutawhao Sports Cliib and Poroutawhao Hall Society, Mr. W. Strode-Penny, referred to the valuable service rendered by the family to the district and to the high esteem in which they were. held. He made particular reference to their work for the hall society and sports club. The president of the Poroutawhao branch of the National Party, Mr. D. W. McLennan, also spoke of the service rendered by the guests of honours. Other speakers were Mr. J. Speirs, on behaJf of the settlers ■ and the National Party, and Mrs. E. N. Scott, on behalf of the Poroutawhao Women's " Institute. .Mr, Hannam suitably replied on behalf of his Wife and son. A cheque was also presented to Mr. and Mrs. Hannam and one to their son also. During the evening items were given by Mesdames R. Sutcliff and W. Hapeta and Mr. W. Tait and Ray Strode-Penny. The remainder of the evening was devoted to hovelty games and dancing.
