So immense is the volume of water to be handled by engineers of. the Works Department when they divert the flow of the Clutha Eiver in preparation for the Roxburgh Gorge hydro-electric undertaking that the tunnel system of diversion has been, abandoned in favour of an open channel. • This was announced by the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple) . Work on the diversion channel would begin in July. A Bailey bridge has been constructed across the Clutha River and within a month the camp for about 200 workmen would be finished.
