NEW PLYMOTJTH, June 21. A tire at Raetihi in the earlv hmiTS of this morning, destroyed the building of the Central Distriet Press, a triweeklv newsnaper. All the maehinerv, ineludin.v a linotype, urinfing. jobbing and guillotine maehines and large stoeks of paper were destroyed. The tire had a good hold when the Raetihi -volunteer fire brigade was ealled and the ro5f was about to t'al! , in. The building was cmiekly fedueed to eharred ruins, all that was left standing being ojie side wall and part of the office from whic.h helners were able to salvage the eonrpany's records. The building, which is situated in the main business street of Raetihi, is surrounded by shops, offices and homes. Alfhough the brigade was unable to save the building, it quickly removed the danger to nearbv structures and pre\Tented a major conflagration. Arrangements were being made today to continue the printing of the newspaper at Taihape in the building of the Taihape Times. The proprietor of the Central Distriet Press js Mr. E. V. Wall who toolc over control about a year ago.
