Received Wednesday, 9.5 a.m. LONJPOam, June 21. The Oval? Tne oveh! WhewJ The sun hnrned down out of a Cioudibss sxy and Bufrey, m scoring 645 for nme (declaredl for their nrst mnings' repiy to JNew Zealand's 465, Golleeped two reegyds. It was ihe hignest score for any eounty in Engiand this supimey, eertainly the h.ighest so far against New Zeglana, "and Farker, with 255, made the highest individual score of the segson. New Zeaiand, in their second innings lastmg 130 minutes, . made 127 for three and the game was drawn. There was little interest in these latter proceedings. Parker's was a fjne exnioition c.f professionai battjng, qujte caupious' and chanceless, with -some good driving and well timed shots. He batted for 6f hours, hit 25 fours and — lef us be frank — was never worried by the New Zeaiand bowling. Let us be equally frank and say that the wicket got siowgr and slower as the day of heat wore on and wore down the New Zealanders. Lesson For Future. Again, ieD us be outspoken and say it is hoped tthat in future no Sunday matches will be arranged in New Zeaiand for a touring team. Everybody, after the first test and a tiring journey from L.eeds to Southampton and back to London, would willingly have missed the game against East Molesey. It mean that the New Zealanders played daily for nine days, finally finding themselves out in the middle in a heat wave on a wicket that gave the bowlers nothing except weary muscles. While stating these facts, it would be unfair and inaccurate to detract from Surrey's batting. It was always correct and it needed to be during the start of the innings, as the three wickets for 77 indicated. But once the- New Zeaiand 1 bowling began to tire and Whittaker got the edge off it, and the wicket went to sleep, the game swung in the county's favour. Details: — SURREY. First Innings.
