Humour At Mr. Semple's Meeting
As was expected; -the address given in Otaki on Sunday night by the Minister of Works, Mr. - Semple, was not devoid of humour. The speaker related an occasion when he had issued a challenge to Communism wMle1 addressing 6000 people inside ' ari " Auckland hall aird .another 1000 outside. His state'ment that New Zealand was the only country in the vtorld that had security from the 'crad]e " to the 'grave was questioned by one who |named Russia as ahead of New .Zealand. "How the Hell do you know," was the answer, Mr. Semple gave. "What's to prevent you buzzing off there in the morning anyway. If you criticised the heads there as you cLo here you would be cold meat." A second reference by the speaker in his own inimitable style ' to his regard for Communists also provoked much laugh'ter. "Anyone who refuses to pull his weight in New Zealand is an imposter — like a flea on a dog. Communists are in that group," declared Mr. Semple. "The dog doesn't 'dislike the flea, but he does dislike the way he gets his living."
