Educational Institute's Meeting

The June ■ hieeting of the Horowhenua Branch of the New Zealand Educational institute was held in Levin School last weelr. Mr. W. H. Townrow presided over a very good attendance oi some 40 members. The president welcomed Mr. O. Yates (Otaki) , MiSs" Breeze (Otaki) and Miss Pappworth (Te Horo) to the Horowheniia district, and .ex-, pressed the hope, that they would have a long and happy stay. Mr. Townrow, in a lengthy report, dealt with the business that came before the Dominion conference, held in Wellington. In particular he outlined the discussions on the proposed schemes for teacher training, accommodation for teachers, extra-mural students, i-extbooks and pupil welfare in general. Mr. F. O. Burtt congratulated Mr. Townrow on the manner of his representation and for his interesting and comprehensive report. Mr. C. E. Wiseley reported on the business transacted at the last meeting of the Committee of Branches, held in Wellington, and he also gave 'members a summary of the business brought before the Wellington Education Board by a deputation from the committee. Mr. Wiseley stressed the active co-oner-ation that was being received from the board, which was prepared to discuss matters with teacher represenatives at all times and to aecept suggestions of a practical nature. The president, in thanking Mr. Wiseley for his representation and report, congratulated him upon being elected chairman of the Committee of Branches. The excebent way he represented the branch had been recognised by the other branches in the Wellington education district, remarked Mr. Townrow. After dealing with several matters of a domestic nature, the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the ladies for the afternoon tea arrangements.
