The alterations have drawn con-. siderable public interest, particularly from ear]y residents of Levin. Many are - the discussions which have already arisen as to the year in »which the hotel was erected. * Numerous suggestions" have been" put forward, one old resident stating that he recaPed living in the hotel as early as 1902. He said: "It was not by any means a new building then." The contractors on the job are satisfied about one point, and that . is that the building methods employed went out of date very many years ago and that it was practically impossible to drive nafis into the pure heart matai of the old structure. The timber being removed is certainly in very sound condition. Perhaps ear'y settlers can come forward with further information.
