Ohau W.D.F.F. Hears About Corso's Work

The June meeting of the. Ohau branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers- was held recently, Mrs. J. A. Kilsby'presiding. It was reported *' that; "-IS food parcels had been packed and sent to Engiand." DUring; the afternoon • a short report wds gfVen by Mi's. Benning on the Activities of the Manawatu provincial executive, after which a most enjoyable pianoforte solo was given by Mrs. Bjarnesen and a vocal duet by Mesdames Greenwood and Bjarnesen. ' ' ' The principal ltem.'of the afternoon was an interesting talk by Mr. Colin Morrison, Dominion secretary of Corso.. In the course of his address, the speaker stated that last year 800 cases-had been shipped to China and 850 to Europe and Greece. He stressed the urgent needs of these c'ountries. 4 The human suffering existing in China today and the desperave shortage of medicdl ;and surgical equipment was crippling, the efforts of those trying to relieve pain and misery, said Mr. Morrison. 'Some of itHfe urgent" needs were' seeds C-vege-■table, flower and grass), warm clothing, bedding, - footwear and educational materials and, to supplefiient the food, honey, marmite and cheese. Gifts of money were also thankfully received. Mr. Morrison con'cluded by stating that goodwill was the surest way to peace and again stressed the urgent need for goods and money. The speaker Was thanked for his talk by the pr.esideht- and,- on -eehalf of the Corso committee, which had been invited to attend, Mrs. C. S. Keedwell also added her Ihanks. A competition was won by Mrs. Evans. Mrs. Guerin won the competition for the best flower and Mrs. Kilsby t|ie competition for "the best- shrub. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the hostesses for the afernoon, Mesdames Burnell, Coulson, Hudson and Walkley,
