Too Many Accidents Involve Pre-School Children
WELLINGTON, June 15. During the past five years 291 children under the age of five have been run over by motor vehicles in New Zealand, according to a report presented to a meeting of the New Zealand Road Safety Councll today In 1947, continued the report, one chil'd was killed. In 1948 eigb„ were kiPed and two had been killed and 30 injured in the first three months' of this year. The chairman.'Mr. G. K Laurenson, said that there was no ifitention to place legal responsibility on the motorist for accidents to preschool children, but he emphasised the nee'd for great care by a motorist when approaching or passing young children. It was , resolved that a sub-com-mittee investigate the pre-school accident sitfi'atiofi'atid teport' to tli'e council's next meeting.
