The IHakerewa ' and Mataura 'works . handled ^ 1,307,353 last year, an increase.of 75,348' over the total in 1947. The labour supply was better tliid season, said the general manager of the Southland Frozen Meat Company, Mr* A. Derbie. The shipment of earcases overseas had been carried out at a satisfactory. rate. SMpments were no longer made in small lots. Now more than 100,000 earcases in oue shipment % was hot uncommOn. The Makerewa and Ocean Beach .works close tomorrow and Mataura on June 17. Because of finishing off work still to be done, figures of the total lcills are not yet available. .
