Following a discussfon, it was resolved to write to the Horowhenua Rugby Union pointing out the position and asking that the same percentage of the gross takings be paid to the local council. Mr. W. Gardner waited on- the council and invited it to carry out an inspection of the frontage of his property with- a view to having some improvement carried out in the near future. The Mayor pointed out that the works committee had made arrangements for certain work to be done,- but other eounc'illor§ could make an inspection if thfey desired*. The librarian, Miss R. Sayer, was granted holidays and the Mayor repprted -that the • Mayoress would take over the duties ph a voluntary basis, but - additional assistance Would be required on Tuesday afternoons/ It was resolved to express thanks 'to the Mayoress and the matter of finding suitable assistance for the days required was left in the hands of Cr. Downes, acting chairman of the library committee. Cr. Downes tabled a report of the library's activiti&s for the past two months and said that at present there were 212 subscribers, 182 town and 30 country. It was agreed thau when the public rest room is opened the room at the rear of the Council Chambers be put in order for the use of the council staff. The chairman of the works committee, Cr. Sayer, reported that an
inspection of the borough had been made by his committee and certain works would be carried out as soon as staff was available. The question of employing extra staff to catch up with the work would be considered by. -the corpmittee^ went on Cr. Sayer.. Reporting Pn the trouble-on the frontage* of Mr. Gardner's property, Cr. Sayer said that this would be attended to when the grader was available.
