First Act Is Bred On Very Fashionable Lines

A doub'e winner at the recent Te Rapa race meeting, First Act, trained at Otaki for Mr. G. Mann, of Levin, pfoved himself definitely superior to the opposition he ,encountered, and there should Pe further cpportuniues for him before he is-weighted out of things. Viewed through h:s two efforts at the Waikato ; meeting, it now looks as though the -opportunity of addmg a sti.i mcTe substantial stake to his account fhas been allowed to pass by through his not being entered for the- Great Northern meeting. However, the climb over the hill wou]d have been something new for him. As First' AH is some what r lightly framed it is broblematical hj^w he would have stood up to such a test as the Great1 Northern Steeples with its three times over the hi 1, and his connexions may be wise in allowing.- him .to miss the . Auckland flxture and '^ait for Wellington, where the country is flat . Being by Rihgmaster from the Limond "mare^ Missal, ' who was a product of irhported Mirabelle II (by Kroohstad) , it is not surprising that First Act possesses both pace and staying ability. Admittedly, Missal did not herself show any great ability in her restricted racing career, but she is a sister to Theo, winner of the A.J.C. and Victoria Derbys. Further, Miramond, an ' e"der brother, also made fame for the family in Australia, being the winner of ten races, and a half-brother by Posterity, Sir Cameron, won such races as 'the Great Northern Guineas, A.R.C. Nolan Handicap, etc., on this side of the Tasman. Another attractive feature of I First Act's pedigree on the maternal side is the fact that Mirabelle II came from a mare who was seem•ingly never accorded a name, in spite of-. the fact that she was a half -sister to All B'ack, the sire of famous Desert Gold. Incidentally, it is to 'this line that Amiable, holder of the mile record in Australia, traces.
