N.Z. Varsity Athletes Meet Sydney Students
Received Wednesday, 10 p.ni. SYDNEY, June 1. The Sydney University Athletic Club defeated the combined New Zealand Universities team at the University Oval this afternoon by 30 points to 31. Conditions were bad with a heavy -sodden ground and it was doubtful until early afternoon whether the tournamont would be held. lu the 100 yards event, the New ZeaJander D. R. Batten got away well and was on even terms with the Australian chainpion Treloar until the final bursc when Treloar drevv ahead and won by two yards. In the 220 event Batten was in a good position when pulled a leg mus'-Je and had to cirop out. Treloai'j who was ruunirig his first 220 yards this sea.soia i easily. Running the first half-mile, he drew steadily away from the others and won by over 20 yards. Millar increased the distanee, giving Treloar an impossible task at the ftnish.
