AUSTRALIAN VARSITY PLAYERS' LAST GAME
AUCKLAND, June 1. After an interesting mafch and excit ing second spell, the Australian Um versities Rugby team won the fina match of the New Zealand tour at Eden Park to-day, by defeating Aucklain. University by 16 points to 14. Austra' lia, which led at halftime by 8 point. to nil, scored four tries, two of whio, were eonverted, to two tries, oue con verted, and two penalty goals. Australia, in the first spell, had ad vantage of a strong vvind and 10 mm utes after the start of play in the sec ond half, heavy rain fell. When tht rain ceased the wind also dropped but from tJiis stage fast counter attacks by either side made the game increasingi , interesting. The standard of footbai tliroughout varied according to concli tions but there was not muefi to choos between the teams. The strong winu and a lively bali in the first spell caus ed a good deal of mishandling by eacli side. Tries for Australia were scored jj\ Ahern, Brockhoff and Garner (2). Wile man eonverted two. For Aucklana Grac.e and. Hope scored tries, Robinsou converting one and also kicking a penalty goal. Carpenter also kicked a pen alty goal.
