British Policeman's Pay To Be Increased

LONDON, May 30. The Government has accepted the recommendations of the Oaksev Committee on police pay and conditions and will authorise a general inerease in police wages by more than £1 weelcl.v, probably dating from July on. The in creases will cost. about £4,000,000 yearly of which half will be obtained from local body rates. The Oaksey committee recommended a starting salary for constables of £330 rising to £420 after 22 years ' service. The present starting salary is £273 yearly. Proportionate increases for officdrs of higher rank and for polieowomen, were recommended. The Police' Association has already expressed stro'ng dissatisfaetion witii the report.
