Poroutawhao W,I.'s Monthly Meeting

The Poroutawhao Women's Institute meeting was held recently when, in the absence of the president, Mrs. Scott, Mrs, W, Carle todk the chair. Apologies were received from Mesdames Scott, J. Hewitt and Miss A. Hewitt. The month's motto, fofwarded by the president, read: "He ean whc thinks he can." Mrs. W. J, Tait provided the accompaniment for s mosf enjoyable sing-song. FoTowing this, members heard ap, ihteresting report from Mrs. Cafle on the recent council meeting at Paremata. Prior to judging the competitions, final arrangements Were made for the institute's exhibit at the arts and craf ts display at preSent shbwing in ihe Regeht Hall, Levin. Competitions resulted as foilows: —Best bloom: Mrs. Vickers 1, Mrs, M. Green 2. Best shrub: Mrs. Hannam 1, Mrs. S. Lumsden 2. Something new from something old: Mrs. Tait 1. Mrs. E. N. Green's competition: Mrs. Vickers 1. Koputaroa's Gathering. There was a fair attendahce of members at the May meeting oi the Koputaroa Institute, when Mrs. E. Baker presided. Phe report of the South Wellington Federation meeting was received and discussed, and arrailgements were made for the display at the exhibition in Levin and for he celebration of the institute's hirthday. Winners of the month's competitions were: — Seed cake: Mrs. Chaprnan 1, Mrs, Hood 2, Mrs. Brown 3 Best bloom: Mrs. Storey 1. Shrub: F/trs. Hurliman 1. Needle case (juniors) : Marie Brown 1, Deborah Guy 2, Beverley Horgan 3. Following the serving of afteriioon tea by Mesdames Chapmar and Ching, a game of indoor golJ was enjoyed by members. The ro'] call for the afternoon Was "Mj birth date." Mrs. Pene, the oldesl tnember, was presenied with 2 floral birthday spray.
