Judges Praise W.I. Arts And Crafts

The exhibition of arts and erafts by the Southern Wellinglon Federacion oi Women's Institutes, which jpened iri the Regent ,Hal}, Levin, yesterday, attracted .Widespread interest, there being a large atlend- . mce on the first day. Eighteen institutes from Tawa Flat to Poroutawhao are reoresenied in the exhibition, which is aitractively laid out in bays and contains a. wealth of reaily fifst cidss exhibits. ; Yesterday afterhdon, the judges, Mrs. W. Short, bf Foxtdn, ahd Miss Maddever, bf Wellington, announced the prize-Winhing bays as ?ol"ows: — ^Kimberley W.I. 1, Paraparaumu W.I, 2, Levin W.I, 3. Commenting to a "Chronicle" representa'ive later, the judges said that the exhibition as a whole waS wbll back tb the standard seen befOre the wdr, It was high generally and inost pleasing. The Winning stall had a good selection of need'ework Of , exceptiqnal quality and generaily there was plenty of variety, There was also some very good basketrv and the thrift rugs were excellent. - „ One stall which was not placed th5 Otaki W.I.. exhibit) had good •■amp'es of hand-paihted china, which the judges described as really excellent work. Also praised were the set of three^ tobev jugs (Paremata W.I.) made from unbaked clay. A set comprising muffler, g'oves ahd hat " in lamb skin (Poroutawhao W,I.) was also praised by the judges.
