Two Centenarians Die

NELSON, May 9. The death of Nelson 's onlv centenarian, Mr,6eorge Ford has occurred within a week of his 101st birthday. He was the son of Mr James Fordv.who came to New Zealand in 1842 and settled in the Lower Hutt and was later one of the three men who first settled and named Masterton. Mr George Ford was born at Masterton on May 14, 1848. As a young man he drove a coach between Greytown and Masterton. Mr Ford moved to the Nelson district in 1875, being [a weliknown wagon driver in Buller and Hampden before that town was renamed Murchison. He retired in Nelson in 1929.
