GREYMOUTH, May 10, Splashed with flammg methylated spirits as they were playing m ihe backyard of a house ai Camerons, seven miles from Greymouth, ' yesterday afternoon, iwo young children were severe y burned. One, Roderick Crooks, aged three years, is in a serious condition in the Grey Kospital. The other,, Erin Calder, aged three, was senous.y burned and - was - noi xe--tained in hospital. The accident occurred when "the mother of the girl, Mrs.'-J. Calder, attempted to light.a fire using me.hyiated spirits. "J When the spirits bottle caught on fire, she rushed to throw the bottle out the back door, nor noticing that the :chi dren were playing nearby. . . The flaming spirit splashed over the chLdren, setting their clothes on fire, Only the action of Mrs. G. Crooks, the mother of the injured boy, who jumped a fence-and rolled the children in grass, saved the iife of the boy, who was badiy burned about' both legs and the left -rm. The girl's burns were confined to the right leg.
