How School Committees Voice Their Views

The method by which the Dominion Federation cf Schoo Committees makes representations to the Minister of Education on matters with which it is concerned was explainetl to the Horowhenua association at a recent meeting by Mr. V. J. Cottle, who represented it at 'ihe federation's conference. ffe said that the federation- set up a Parliamentary committee _ of chree members. This committee waited on the Minister and placed iefore him the federation's viewpoint on the subject with which it dealt ' and in due course received his reply. Mr. Cottle added that it was a very satisfactory and worthwhile nrocedure. A comprehensive survey of the decisions of the conference tyas given by Mr. Cottle, who said that ohey would now be presented to the Minister by the Parliamentary committee. Amcng the decisions were the -fo'lowing: — That linoleum be pro;Vfded for all corridors and infant "classrooms, and eventuafiy for all elassrooms; that in all new schpols provision be made for indoor iavatories and hand-basins for infant c asses; that in view oi vhe un,uitable and sometimes deplorable state of manv schcols, education ooards be asked to make public their programme for the rebuiiding of these "schools; Chat notwithstanding the acknowledged existing difficultjes in regard to aceommodation and staff, the utmost endeavour be made to reduce the size of ciasses to a final aim of 3Q pupils, and that moveab'e shelter^ be provided for country children having to wait for conveysnces.
