Parishioners Of St. Mary's Elect Church Officers

' Thb parishioners of St, Mary's Angtican Church, Levin, ast nighl at-eryded the annuai meeting of the church, Rev, Q, B, Stote-Blandj presiding. In their statement of accounts and annuai report, churchwardens, Messrs A. O. P'owell and H. L. Jenkins, sta'ced that the general account, which had opened the yeai with a credit baiance of £74 8s lld had finished with a credit of £92 12s 2d, showing an improvement oi £i8 3s 3d- Qpen ofiertories, at £307 16s 10d, showed an increase of £4£ 6s .when compared with thv previous- year, wliile envelopes, a £231 12§ 4d, showed an increase o£64 18s -ld. The golden offering held on the oecasion of the patronal festival. brought in £50 ls, e decrease of £4Q 14s ld on the previous year. . Subseriptions and donations, at £119 8s, showed an increase. of £98 ls 6d, These foui items, which eomprised the main source of revenue of the parish,. showed an increase of £190 12s ove:'1 the previous year. The increases in enve opes and donations couic no doubt be attributed to the urgent appeal for funds which was made by the westry during the year. ■The estimaie of expenditure for the forthcoming year would be £860 and the estimated receipts £288. It would. therefore, be necessary for the church to obtain £572 through general offertories. ' Very necessary and much overdue painting work on the church was now being carried out and a big improvement was noticeabie in the appearance of the building. The publication and distribution of the Parish News and Church and the People had cominued through^ out the year the former costing the general account £7 4s 3d. Thanks were extended to those voluntary workers who had carried out ihe distribution of the papers. The Koputaroa Church building fund had jncreased during the year to the extent of £324 11s lOd. Interest during ihe year had been £197 9s ld, whfie donations totalled £127 2s 9d. The new church furnishing fund had increased by £119 10s 5d, interest earned being £10 10s 5d. ' During the vear the vestrv hfr5 received a bequest of £2^ 5s from the es ate of the late Mr. H. Devereux and the money was to be applied to church purposes.

VicaFs Review. In his review of the year Mr. Stote-Biandy thanked all those who had taken any part in -the aeavities of the church. During the year' the vestry had met regular, yyto deai with church business. He would partieularly thank the church warden, Mr. Jenkins, who had made the vestry's task much easier. As 'Ihe vicar's church warden, Mr, Powell had carried out his dutie# i well * andt.Jia.dv,.been,..of „ inr; valuable assistance at the flower show. The guild a.so had been of tremencjous help and one of its outstanding successes had been tl?bazaar. .One of the most exae'.ing tasks:was that carried out by'the Sunday schooi teachers, and he had been very pleased with their work and also with the .number of '.eachers who had come forward. Mr. Stote-Blandy said that he would also like to record his thanks to Canon G. Y, Woodward, who. had deputised for him on occasions, and also the lay readers who ' had taken services throughout the year. Rev. J. Morland had done marvellous work with that small group of children of the mail bag Sunday Schooi and the organist, Mr. Hayfield. The choir had carried cn nobly and well, but he would be pleased to see a much larger choir than at present. He was glad to notice that the financial position of the church was sounder this year than for some time, this being mainly due to the increase in envelope subscribers, continued the vicar. An additionar £100 a year had been forthcoming through -envelope subseriptions and in view of the increase he thought Ihat perhaps the time had arrived when the vestry should consider discontinuing the golden offering now that the parishioners were giving so regula^y. Mr. Stote-Blandv went on to say that he had hoped by now that instead of painting the church, the new building would have been an actual fact, but he felt sure that within 'the lifetime of most of those present the new church woul'd be built. ' The cem^nt shortage was the main trouble, but it was also felt that the buPding should be erected with 'the very best of materials as it should last for 100 or 200 years. There was, therefore, no point in rushing its erection whh the materials available. Officials Elected. The following officia s were appointed for the forthcoming year: Parishioners' churchwarden : Mr. H L. Jenkins; vicar's churchwa'fden (appointed by the vicar) : Mr. A. O. PoweU; vestry: Mrs. G. F. Milnes. and Messrs J. W. Avery, W. G. Bishop, G. E. Glover, T. C. De Mey. H. L. Lines, W. H. A. Ha ch, K Lines, F. C. Lemmon and L. M Clark; hon. auditor: Mr. G. Sorenson; Parish Trust Board: Messrs Jenkins, Powell, Avery ancl "W. Bul) , During general discussion it was tdecided to carry on with the 1"etttng of St. Mary's Hall but that in vieu of 'the fact that it was often left ir an unsatisfactory state, and in consequence unsuitable for use on the Sunday for the Sunday schoo" ciasses, the question of Saturday night let'ting be referred to the vestry for consideration. It was decided to send ^etters of thanks for services rendered the church tp Rev. J. Morland and aJsc Mrs. W. Storey, of Weraroa, who had volun'tarily kept the church hall there in good order. The meeting opened and closed

with prayer and supper was afterwards served by members of the ladies' guild.
