Eel baskets and agricuitural instruments found at Te Pahu, near Frankton Junclion, indicate the former existence of a Maori fishing ground and agricuitural plantation there. Mr. C. Smith uncovered the refics when laying a drain. The Maoris had obviously built a dam for fishing, and three well-pre-served baskets were still wedged between logs which bore the marks of stone adzes.
