Poppy Sales Show Slight Decrease This Year
There has been a small decrease in poppy saies in Levin this year, the sum of £126 6s lOd being raised. This is 12s 4d below the proceeds last year and £7 17s 7d less than the record saies of 1947. Excellent work was performe-d by a band of women under the direction of Mrs. H. J. Lancaster. Pupils of the Horowhenua College and Levin, Ohau, Koputaroa, Muhunoa and Poroutawhao Schools all contributed to the saies. The total amount raised last year was £126 19s 2d. This year's total is made up $s follows, the figures for 1948 being given in parentheses: — Mrs. Lancaster and helpers, £81 18s (£71 2s 4d) ; Levin School, £20 4s 6d (£20 4s 6'd) ; Horowhenua College, £7 6s (£19 8s) ; Ohau School £5 (£4 9s) ; Koputaroa School £6 14s (£6 15s) ; Muhunoa School £1 5s (£1 5s) ; Poroutawhao School £3 19s 4cjl (£3 15s 4d) . The executive of the Levin R.S.A. expresses its deep appreciation of the generous support accorded the poppy saies by the general public and wishes to sincerely thank the ladies arfd staffs and pupils of the Horowhenua College and public schools in Levin and district for their ready and valuable assistance in making the effort such a success.
