When the Ohau • Hall was destroye'd by fire some years ago, that disi-rict's first Roll of Honour Board was lost. On it were the names of Ohau and district men who served apd fell in the South African War and -World War I. Towards the end of the last war, the Ohau Hall was re-built and Ihe local patriotic society, having a, surplus of funds, decided at'a pubiic meeting to have a new Roll of Honour Board made and erected. The work was completed recently and, following the Anzac Day service on Monday, it was unveiied, the dedication ceremony being conducte'd by Rev. H. S. Kings, C.F. Following this the chairman of the Ohau Hall Committee, Mr. S. C. Saint, called on MrSl Kirkealdie to unveil the plaque. Mrs. Kirkealdie is the daughter of an early settler of Ohau, the late Mr. Kebbell. The plaque itself is a magnificent example of the woodworker's and signwriter's art. It is of polished rimu, 12 feet by nine fept, and at he top are the words Ohau Roll of Honour, and below this, For King and Country, while this is repeated in Maori— Mo Te Kingi Mo Te Motu. On four inset panels are the names of 130 men who served in the S«uth African, 1914-18 and 1939-45 wars. The names of those' who paid the supreme sacrifice are marked with an asterisk. All the lettering is done in gold leaf.
