"I am often asked by people overseas what the name of the ship means," said the master of the Motorship Hurunui (Captain A-. E. Williatns) at a Lyttelton Harbour Board gathering. "When I tell them that it means 'short, stunted growth' they ask me how I ever became master," said Captain Williams, who is 6ft 3in. .
