The exercises, known as "Operajbio'n Trident," and- due to last for xive days, are being held' behind leavily guarded doors surrounded by more' security pi.easpr.es than; ^evaii.ed on many wartime occa-' sions. Only the barest outline has jeen divulged.publicly of what some 400 or more high-ranking officers, seientists, and "backroom boys" will hear and see in a series of lectures and demonstrations dealing vith the future .defen.ee of the Bri..sh Commonwealtft and its ability to wage war. . All weapons, tactics, strategies and ideas which cou'd be. applied m the defence of Comirponweaith supply routes and future sea warfare will be reviewed. British naval ofhcers from all overseas stations are joining mili.ary and air force representatives ,i a study of the exercises, which will all be open to a delegation of highr anking United States officers and technical experts who have ■■ome to London specially for the occasion. Apart from talks by specialists, 'he exercises are being conducted iv means of films and stage set;ings, as well as models representnp- sea battles. Other parts of the exercises are considered so secret that every person entering the demonstration ball must show a pass and be '•hecked by security officers.
